FAQ
Q: Where does this program come from?
A: READY! for Kindergarten is a program of The Children’s Reading Foundation and the Kennewick, WA school district’s elementary school reading research. It was developed by a team of Kindergarten teachers, early childhood educators, parents and others who work with young children. Educators and specialists continue to be involved in the curriculum updates and resources.
Q: Will this program help me to raise a “super-child?”
A: Though the program is not designed to raise a “super-child”, it is exciting to think of the limitless potential of a child who starts and stays on or above grade level throughout school. READY! for Kindergarten’s parenting practices and activities are designed to support parents in preparing their child to enter kindergarten performing at average levels or better. The targeted skills are those of a typical 5 year old. READY! activities do not require parents to be professional teachers. They are designed to be used by any caring adult. They invite children to experience the joy of learning that will last a lifetime.
Q: How do I register?
A: Check this website for links to programs available in your area. Or call your school district about offering the READY! program.
Q: How often do I attend READY! classes?
A: READY! classes are offered three times per year (Fall, Winter and Spring) with a different lesson and focus each time. You may attend one class per child from ages birth to 5. The classes offered are: ages birth-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5.
Q: Is childcare available while I am in class?
A: Many districts and sponsors do provide childcare as part of the program. Please check with your local office for details.
Q: How do I know which age level to attend for my child?
A: Generally, we count backwards from when the child will start kindergarten.
Attend the age 4-5 class if your child will enter kindergarten NEXT year, attend the age 3-4 class if your child will enter kindergarten in TWO years, etc.
