For Educators

Cost and Administration

Program Costs
The Children's Reading Foundation developed the age level targets and the initial set of fifteen lessons used by READY! for Kindergarten. Implementation is primarily community-based.

While program costs and funding can vary, the READY! curriculum and parent materials generally cost $45 per kit.  The kits include printed material such as target sheets and parent handouts to support the curriculum as well as tools (toys) to use at home.  When a parent attends for the first time, they also recieve an $18 set of orientation materials. It costs $135 per year in addition to the orientation materials for you to promote life-long success for a child.

One set of instructor notes and a DVD are provided with each sponsoring agency or school district order (extra sets may be purchased separately).

The first READY! program in 2003 was funded by the Kennewick (WA) School District. This district continues to fund READY! in the Kennewick area. For the 3000+ parents who attend READY! classes each year, Kennewick allocates approximately $300 per child per year.  Approximately half of this allowance goes toward the cost of the learning kits which parents receive three times per year when they attend class. This allocation also covers the on-going costs of local program management, class instructors, facilitators, program promotion, and networking with child care providers and community agencies.

Administration
At the local level, a program director manages the logistics of such things as scheduling classes, ordering and inventory control of materials, marketing, hiring staff, registering parents, and preparing classroom spaces on behalf of the school district or sponsoring organization.

Support from the READY! National staff is readily available.
