What is READY! for Kindergarten?
READY! for Kindergarten harnesses the untapped skills of parents and primary caregivers through a series of 15 parent/caregiver classes. When parents leave these classes, they have the information and tools they need to prepare their child to enter kindergarten primed and eager to learn. The Children's Reading Foundation and the Kennewick (WA) School District developed the program's model based on research documenting the benefits of family-based programs, and the importance of adult-child shared book reading and purposeful play. You can be assured that fellow educators have already proven the effectiveness of READY! for Kindergarten.
Why is READY! for Kindergarten important for educators?
READY! for Kindergarten empowers parents because they are a child's most influential and most loved teacher. This innovative program nurtures enthusiasm and respect among parents and caregivers for the value of early learning experiences and honors them as being a valuable player in each child’s future success in school.
During the first five years of life, parents have a key role in shaping their child's developing language, literacy, mathematical and social-emotional skills. When you provide READY! for Kindergarten classes in your community, you help parents prepare their children to start school with basic learning skills already established. READY! teaches parents how their children learn and develop, and then provides tools and activities that make it easy for parents to enjoy fun learning time in the security of their own homes. That makes your job easier! Research shows that children who start prepared for school, find it easier to stay on target for the rest of their school years.
Children are born learning. They naturally love to learn. When parents are empowered to work with that natural curiosity, you enjoy the benefits!
